Seminary students rely on financial aid
Seminary students cannot be expected to pay the full cost of a seminary education. It costs your Presbyterian seminaries an average $109,000 to educate a Master of Divinity student for three years. To pay their way, students rely on financial gifts from their congregation and presbytery. Many also depend on seminary scholarships or work/study programs, and some finance their education with their own personal savings. The seminaries also work with students to help them graduate with as little debt as possible.
The SISF is a dedicated amount of money administered by the Committee on Preparation for Ministry of Albany Presbytery. Income for the fund is provided by special offerings at Ordination Services for new Ministers of Word and Sacrament, and at Installation Services for new pastors.
Typical uses of grant money from this fund are payments for items required by the Committee, which are over-and-above normal seminary expenses. Examples have included portions of Career Assessment, Clinical Pastoral Education and travel reimbursement for conducting committee functions. Application for funds is made through the committee liaisons for each Inquirer or Candidate. |
